It’s tryout season and I’m playing the part of the guidance counselor to a profusion of parents and youth soccer players.
Some of the questions I have been hammered with:
“What team should my kid play for?”
“Will this team help them develop?”
“Will my son be challenged?”
“Do you know the coach?”
“Is he good? Can he teach?”
“Actually, can you just do a FBI investigation on the him?”
While most youth coaches would be overwhelmed with this bombardment of questions, I was happy to help. Getting on the phone with parents and guiding them through a stressful time and calming them during the noise warms my soul.
After all, parents want what is best for their kid in terms of player as well as personal development, and I could not be more on board with them phoning strong youth coaches in the industry.
In honor of being a breathing professional in this space, shelling out advice and providing parents with the best youth resources out there, I put together a compilation of my best articles, as well as videos and soundbites from other amazing youth strength coaches.
So put your reading glasses on, install that pull-up bar in your basement, and dive in:

Youth Mental Training
Want to bring out the best in your kid, strengthen their strengths, and amplify their talents?
Multipliers is one of the best books I have read on leadership. It teaches us to hype up our youth players’ strengths so they build their confidence. Though a lot of corporate and organizational examples in this book, all of it can be applied to a team setting. Enjoy.
My friend and former D1 player Erin Mandras is a pioneer for eating disorders in athletes, as well as a teacher of self worth and confidence. Kick the Scale is the best website to learn about this prevalent issue and how to tackle with your female athletes.
